life at the clarendon hills HQ in sunny alameda has been rough. the clarendon hills' super mainframe recently suffered a fatal meltdown (broken motherboard and fried cpu) leaving the c-hills in a devestating digital vacuum. consequently, the website has remained dormant (we have a cartload of new songs, photos, and video to upload!) however, until then, the shows must go on:

on friday, the c-hills reunited with bEASTfest compatriots secadora and noisepop heroes dealership for an all ages show at cafe eclectica. the tiny place was packed with kids where the median age seemed like 14 years old with a standard deviation of only 1.5-- definitely our kinda show. three entertaining perspectives on the show can be finagled here:

sunday night was our show at the edinburgh castle with the western states, mud, and airbag. elbert hadn't slept for 36 hours due to his laborious life as a stanford grad student, while pepito and christine thought it would be a good idea to play an exhausting game of intramural soccer up at uc berkeley just a few hours before the show (their team: lassie come home won 3-0). the c-hills were rewarded with their sloppiest performance ever, highlighted by pepito cracking his skull on the low hanging ceiling and then suddenly inexplicably smooching elbert. afterwards, more sleep deprivation was encouraged, as the western states, the skyflakes, and the c-hills crowded into sparky's diner to drink, eat, and be merry.

we heart buddy and lisa. no shows or band practice for the c-hills-- a rare weekend indeed! elbert was too busy wining and dining prospective students to make the same mistake he did and attend graduate school at stanford. pepito and chris spent friday night reading the HATE and PEEPSHOW comics they bought, and listening to newly acquired LPs: the the (international) noise conspiracy and calexico. saturday afternoon found the c-hills up on uc berkeley campus listening to film wunderkind todd solondz speak. noisepop was this weekend, but ticket prices were outrageous.

what a weekend. the c-hills trekked up north for some novato-core action in ben's fabled living room. candy purse were extremely cute and literally electrifying. morgan (of sharp knife) transformed himself into christine and elbert chillin' at the brainwash. a boy and his blob and played acoustic odes nostalgic for 8-bit nintendo. hightailing it back to the east bay, we underwent the utterly astonishing experience known as tinybirdmouths who played acoustically at the cafe.
our acoustic show on saturday night with the skyflakes at the brainwash laundromat was an afterthought, as the real festivities began once the show ended. we stuffed our faces full of indian food and then crashed our friend mike's chinese new year's party. after which, we all stayed up at the BFI compound until 4am wobbling around on mimi's indo board.
sunday, while christine and elbert buried their respective noses in books and research, pepito went and saw old chicago friends the alkaline trio and the lawrence arms at some big sold out show in SF. hats off to miya and asian man records for the ride and the guestlist.

on friday, the c-hills found themselves in a hot tiny space in san francisco watching tinybirdmouth bring the noise, and celebrating the dual birthdays of miya and mimi. before the clock struck 12, valentine's day at the stork club. they scampered back to the east bay to rendevouz for some midnight punk basketball at the secret court on the berkeley marina. saturday was spent running around the APE 2002. despite christine's original inspiration of going to the APE to "beat up adrian tomine," the only encounter that ultimately transpired was adrian sniffing disdainfully at pepito's critical queries regarding optic nerve's "evolution." however, pepito did manage to procure a wonderful letter from ariel schrag for his younger sister kara about the pitfalls of high school popularity! sunday was spent resting and watching the nba all-star game.
however, make no mistake, the c-hills are still playing GTA3 and dance dance revolution, and anxiously await the release of state of emergency. the c-hills are still talking about how entertaining the latest issue of eightball is, and are thrilled about the dirtbombs and andrew WK blowing through town in the month of march. the c-hills just recorded five new songs in five feverish hours which will be a cassette-only release from RISK. the c-hills will be playing four shows in four cities in the month of february. and last but not least, the ink is still wet on our new shirts!
