february 21, 2003:
the clarendon hills were spotted on valentine's day at a late night basement make-out
party at the mysterious cereal factory. newly annoited by rolling stone magazine rock stars, knulla roofs made a special musical appearence, followed by the irrepressible blanche devereaux, and soon to be legendary TLC tribute band poseur posse. however, the hottest ticket of the evening belonged to the scandalous kissing booth that stood invitingly in the back.
the next morning, elbert, pepito and christine were out cold until 2pm, but finally managed to get off their lazy asses and dust off the
digital 8 track from the closet. the clarendon hills are teaming up with comic wunderkind hellen jo for a split record / comic book: four songs accompanied by four stories. six hours of tangled cables, creative mic positioning, and hysterical vocal out takes later, the clarendon hills polished off the beginnings of "so alone" and "no."
two weeks ago, with some vehicular and navigatory assistance from the skyflakes, the clarendon hills caravan rolled into starry skied santa cruz late friday night for an out of control show at the infamous brommer house-- a tiny room, amazing bands (texas sexes and half czar), over-cranked amps, free flowin' booze, a portable fog machine, and kids bouncing off walls. a sponatenous drunken chorus line complete with attempted synchronized high kicks broke out during the c-hills. despite the casualty of a shattered window resulting in some nasty bloody cuts, the party ended with everyone breathless, smiling, and woozy. among those dancing was the one and only
heather blotto which was particularly redeeming since al blotto once dismissed the clarendon hills as "soft." ha. redemption!
a few hours before the saturday night show, the c-hills and skyflakes splurged on a $120 greek feast
at vasili's. they also stopped by comic wonderland, atlantis fantasy world in downtown santa cruz, to say "hi" to soelle, and help hellen drop off copies of komisches buch #2. the c-hills played with the scratchies and profundo rossi in a uc santa cruz classroom below a dining hall. very cool.
no shows until march. instead, the c-hills with some of their nearest and dearest will be hitting the slopes of tahoe for snowball fights and extreme sledding.
