yao.      a show at the balazo gallery is like playing a swanky apartment with a party percolating in every room. the occasion? a record release show for the "underground screams " compilation on asian man records. art installations, scene kibitzing, and video cameras were the backdrop as mike park shared wasabe flavored gumballs and told a curious story about pepito's sleeping peculiarities in between pepito and dan
elbert and hellen acoustic ditties. to mark the special occasion, the c-hills reunited with honorary c-hill dan lee (from scrabbel and most recently the aislers set ). as if the accompaniment of dan's guitar wasn't enough, hellen jo shredded the cello on two numbers including a soft, symphonic version of "you and i" to end the night. the skyflakes, la plebe, and charmin rocked the party too. A-OK ron!
lauren, hellen, josh, nicky darger, and monroe.      a few weeks ago, on a bright and early saturday morning, the c-hills and a caravan of their nearest and dearest assembled in the industrial paradise of west oakland. erin (the mastermind behind "this is the clarendon hills!" and her trusty crew set up shop and shot the c-hills "playing" beneath a highway underpass. meanwhile, outfitted with a dazzling array of neon colored jump ropes and playground kickballs. elbert, chris, heath and marlon.
julie, heath, marlon, and erin. tyson, hellen, jericho, ron, ollie, mimi, jj, monroe, lauren, xjoshx, and nicky darger were put to the cardio-vascular test, as they repeatedly hopped, skipped, and jumped rope on command along the adjoining train tracks. catering was provided by pak 'n save, sound by mimi's boombox, and last minute props by home depot. the video for "so alone" is coming soon. in the meantime, why not revisit "this is the clarendon hills!"? monroe. ruff.
against me!      pirated cable and the nba playoffs have put a serious crimp on pepito and christine's social life. they did manage to crawl off the couch and drop in on this year's punk prom at 924 gilman. mohawks and spiked bracelets were replaced by tux's and corsages, as the kids danced the night away to the anarcho-folk-punk sounds of against me!. jason webley, panty raid, and pansy division played too. kendra and larry!
nerf war II      christine and pepito hopped into their new honda and zipped to milpitas to meet up with elbert and mimi for some nerf war action. with their younger cousins, patrick and joey visiting from the philippines, the skyflakes hosted the highly anticipated nerf war II. armed with some alarming nerf firepower, the c-hills, the s-flakes, and friends gunned each other down in hails of nerf ammo until the next morning. '89 honda civic
pepito: vice city. the official weapons list included: four dead-eye accurate super maxx 750s, a pair of super maxx 350s with modified grip, one nerf ball blaster, a single pump blast-a-matic, the semi-automatic powerclip DX 1000, a handful of sock grenades, and a powerful yet cumbersomely useless MP150 motorized bazooka. ammo was plentiful as were nasty unexpected shots to the face. ollie will cut your face.
the notwist (pronounced 'NOTE-twist.')      elbert is listening to scared of chaka and telling anyone who'll listen about how incredible the bananas show at 924 gilman was. christine admits to genuinely bawling in her beer at the recent readyville show at cafe dunord. the notwist were good, but pepito still detests shows at slim's. the new black eyes and postal service records are great. remember skye? yet more scandalous photos can be found: here. SKYE GIRLS!!!
