docked in the murky waters of the port of oakland lies the ghostly art ship. originally, a hulking iron luxury liner from 1939, it was converted into an infirmary ship during WWII to collect the dying. it is now a floating art space. the clarendon hills jumped at the chance to creep around its many levels before the pre-screening of finnish indie film "under a shipwrecked moon" by director antero alli. a humble c-hills song is in the movie and on the soundtrack. it premieres at the cellspace on may 29th.
|
the c-hills also pop up in an unexpected cameo appearence in the scathing animated short "indie schmindie." a surprise hit at this year's theatre rice, hellen and jericho take an unflinching and hysterical stab at the foibles of "frickin' SF indie scenesters." ironically, "indie schmindie" raises the classic paradox of who is more snobby? hipster snobs or the anti-hipster snobs who poke fun at them?

(witness the satiric fury of "indie schmindie.")

recall joe steal's apartment? it took just six hours to shoot the video for "in my head (the phone is dead)," but six months to get around to producing it for your viewing pleasure. thanks to joe steal for letting us invade his apartment, eugenia chan and david zubkis for shooting and production, miya osaki for her fine acting, and mimi kong for sitting around. how many times can you spot the little black phone before it gets smashed to bits?

(break out your 40 oz and cereal and watch the video for "in my head (the phone is dead.)")

the latest issue of hardboiled published an interogatory interview with the c-hills. read: here.

the kids all went to see ian mackaye speak for $3 on sunday, but you could have harrassed him for free on friday night at the
black eyes show at 214 valencia
. black eyes are five chaps from DC toting two basses, a guitar, two drum kits, numerous cowbells, a saxophone, a keyboard, and a propensity to beat the shit out of anything percussive. cex, is pretty funny; the pseudo-raver indie kids who pretend to dance to him are not. on saturday night, lo-fi neisans dropped some crazy carnage at 924 gilman. alert! all ages sunday matinee summer shows are starting up at the ramp in berkeley! pepito caught 8-bit nintendo cover band the advantage (members of hella and ent!)

(be mesmerized by live footage of black eyes and lo-fi neisans.)

missed christine's uc berkeley commencement? watch the shaky ass video clip!
elbert is finally high-tailing it out of stanford and moving into the BFI compound with pepito and christine!
finally. beware the approach of the muffin tour.

summer is coming...
*** FRIDAY, MAY 29th @ the stork club, oakland. 9:30pm. $5. 21+. ***
if youve been following the exploits of san jose girl rock sensations SKYE, then you already know they've kicked out mariah and added melanie! more incredibly, they are opening for sammy hagar this summer! meanwhile, the clarendon hills can finally say they have opened for a band who have opened for smash mouth and sammy hagar. along for the ride are c-hills friends readyville and november occupation. this show is going to be A-MAZING.
*** SATURDAY, MAY 30th @ 924 gilman, berkeley. 8pm. $5. all ages. ***
this is a benefit show for the prisoners' literacy project. portland's rock n roll machines, the exploding hearts, were supposed to play, but cancelled at the last minute. since the c-hills were going to be at gilman anyway, they were invited to come down and play. hit-self-destruct, the specs, this is my fist!, and the influents are down for the cause too.
