october 5, 2003:

three years and 100 shows later, and all the c-hills have to show for is one crazy party.
party time! elbert and christine superballs! silly string! glitter.
as sather tower tolled 5pm on friday, a tiny, unassuming classroom corridor on uc berkeley campus was quietly infiltrated. despite the passing glances of unwitting uc chemistry grad students, the c-hills and cohorts begin nonchalantly plastering the walls with 1's and 0's creating a binary-style, dizzying mural of 100's ad inifinitum. a lovely table of party favors, lanesplitter pizzas, fizzy soda, fat goodie bags, and special edition 100th show pins was hastily arranged. a stuffed pinata chock full of candy and mini-mousetraps was mysteriously hung. it was starting to look like a party.
the skyflakes the skyflakes arriving in high style at 6:30pm, the skyflakes paid affectionate tribute to the c-hills keen fashion sense by donning faded black hoodies, white t-shirts, dark blue jeans, and of course requisite nerd glasses. ollie made an exquisite christine, while tricia proved to be a hardcore version of elbert. the s-flakes surprised everyone with a sweet electro-pop remix of "throwdown."

knulla roofs are knulla roofs dead? hopefully not, as they absolutely ripped it up at the c-hills 100th show b-day party. if the tragic rumors are indeed true, east bay punk rock just lost another piece of pop greatness. from their original mention in rolling stone , knulla roofs were "practically a berkeley institution." for those who missed out on their frenetic, head-bop inducing shows, here is a crash course: "phantom flip," "1999," "afraid of the moon," and "i heart the muffin man."
bonus: rare footage of "you and i" (from a house party in davis.)

with no cops or security in sight, the clarendon hills set it off with a torrent of balloons and a kaleidoscopic blizzard of silly string. the next ten minutes was nothing but crazy noise and feedback, screaming and dancing, all amidst a jubilant flurry of beach balls, toy bubbles, shimmering confetti, flying mini-frisbees, more balloons, and endless streams of silly string.

the c-hills melee! more balls! even more balls! sparklers!
by the time pepito hoisted the box of 500 superballs over his head, a mob of kids swarmed in to grab eager fist fulls. the ensuing mayhem of 500 superballs whizzing and ricocheting in every fucking direction was glorious and well worth the black eyes, purple bruises, and broken teeth.

here is a brilliant photo of the superballs in flight from afar. any other photos? write: pepito.

the c-hills hug everyone who showed up. kisses to those who signed the 100th show guestbook.

please, help save our beloved bindlestiff:
